According to Alyssa Oursler at Forbes, the phrase is Googled 50,000 each month not including the searches for work-life balance tips, techniques or other phrases!
I recently blogged that
I do not believe in work-life balance, and I really do not.
I don’t want to minimize the challenges of getting kids to where they need to be while juggling business meetings, or working late and coming home to realize there is nothing in the refrigerator to cook for dinner. These daily juggling acts make many women the superheros of modern-time.
However, wishing for and searching for work-life balance is like chasing the pot at the end of the rainbow. It is elusive because if you are chasing it you are probably not focused on the real problems. Lets look at some of the prevelant issues you and many women face.
If you constantly feel your work prevents you from enjoying your life, then look at:
- Is this work meeting your need self-expression?
- Does your job feel meaningful, beyond the paycheck it brings to you and your family?
- Do you feel empowered to make a difference at work?
- Are your core values represented by the company you work for?
If you answer no to these questions, then start today to create a “work” side of your life that feeds your soul, inspires you, and is something you want to talk about to everyone you meet. Start exploring what makes your heart sing by doing the exercises in the FREE download to my upcoming book, Be A Female Millionaire.
On the other hand, if you find yourself constantly hiding yourself in long hours, business trips and projects it is time to look at:
- Are your relationships meeting your needs?
- Do you ask for what you want from others?
- Have you created an environment at home you love that rejuvinates you?
- Do you invest in keeping the clutter out of your home space so you can relax when there?
If you answered no to any of these questions, then it might be time to have a long chat with your partner, invest in a cleaning service, or spend some time asking yourself what you need to invite yourself back into this other part of your life. Working hard because we are passionate about what we are doing is completely different than working to avoid our lives.
These are just a few of the questions you might investigate if you feel the need for more work-life balance. In my Be A Female Millionaire Wealth Development Program, I tackle these issues head on because to REALLY succeed you have to feel good about what you are doing, how it influences your personal life, and what impact you are making on the world!
